Mumbai, Maharashtra – Renowned devotional singer and Padma Shri awardee Anup Jalota celebrated Diwali this year with acclaimed Kathak dancer Nilanjana at his Mumbai residence. The evening highlighted the festival’s spiritual significance while underscoring the importance of mindful and safe celebrations.
On the Spirit of Diwali
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Anup Jalota said, “Diwali marks the joyous return of Lord Ram to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile. The city was filled with happiness then, and that same emotion fills our hearts today. We decorate our homes, wear new clothes, light diyas, and pray to Maa Lakshmi and Maa Saraswati for a prosperous and beautiful life for all.”
On Tradition and Change
“Celebrations may evolve with time, and change is positive. But the core sentiment remains unchanged – welcoming Lord Ram and seeking blessings of Maa Lakshmi and Maa Saraswati,” he noted.
Music for the Occasion:
While audiences often request his timeless bhajan ‘Aisi Lagi Lagan’, Jalota shared that his personal Diwali favorite is ‘Deepawali Manai Suhani, Mere Sai Ke Haathon Mein Jaadu Ka Paani’.
Message to the Youth
Jalota appealed for responsibility and safety during the festivities:
1. Avoid dangerous firecrackers that pose risk of injury.
2. Be considerate of neighbors – fix a reasonable time limit for bursting crackers to prevent distress.
3. Choose low-emission firecrackers and remain mindful of air and noise pollution.
“Diwali is a festival of light, joy, and togetherness. Let us celebrate in a way that ensures safety and happiness for everyone,” he concluded.
